Flower Festival – the anniversary of Buddha’s birth

April 8th is the anniversary of Buddha’s birth.

The anniversary of Buddha’s birth is called Flower Festival.

In 2014, Flower Festival ws held in May 11.

Temple sanctuaries are decorated with many flowers .

Mother picked up many flowers in the temple garden this morning.

The sanctuaries full of flowers are called hana-mido, and statues of the newborn Buddha are placed there.

The statues of Buddha are placed in basins that contain special tea (amacha) . This tea is sooooo sweet.  Natural sweet, no sugar!!

People pour amacha onto the statues of the newborn Buddha.

This comes from the legend that dragon in the heavens poured perfumed warm water onto Buddha when he was a newborn baby.
